Floored

We just returned from a much needed vacation and are ready to get back to work. To follow up on the last post, things went better than expected and we were even able to leave on our vacation early!

The insulation went in very quickly. Just lay it in the joist bays and your good to go. We installed some netting to keep it from falling through and the insulation needed to be cut for any non-standard width bays. Otherwise it was pretty simple and we could have finished in an evening and bumped up the inspection by a day, but better safe than sorry.

The inspection went quickly since they only want to verify that the insulation is installed and then it was on to laying the 3/4" tongue and groove sub-floor. This also went quickly and was finished before noon on Saturday. The master bath was the most complex area with all the plumbing cut-outs. The nail gun came in really handy on the sub-floor. It would have taken quite a bit longer to nail it by hand. The bump-fire trigger (hold down the trigger and every time you depress the nose of the gun it fires a nail) on the gun is perfect for this kind of work. We also glued down the sub-floor to keep it from squeaking in the future.

The girls have really enjoyed their new "dance floor". I think they would be happy just to leave it as is... but we're moving on. This week we will begin raising the walls. The lumber is being delivered on Wed/Thurs which gives me a few days to prepare the site. Last time we put all the lumber in the back corner of our lot. This kept it out of the way with all the tractors and earth moving, but made it more work to carry since it was on the opposite end of the yard from where it was needed. This time we'll stack the lumber near the addition which should make it a little easier.

Just a reminder, don't forget to check out our photo album linked here. Each week there is a new folder added full of lots of pictures that aren't posted in the blog entries.
