Counter Tops

Well, our new kitchen looks quite different - in a really good way!

We got our counter tops installed on Thursday and they look great. It really makes the kitchen look good! It was a little crazy getting up to that point, though.

I got sick and was layed out for most of Sunday and Monday. Originally the counter tops were going to be installed on Tuesday, but we wouldn't have been ready so we pushed back the install to Thursday. Even still it was busy getting the bookcase built and installed and getting the plywood on top of the cabinets. We finished getting everything ready Wednesday night about 11pm. Just in time for the installers to arrive on Thursday morning at 9am.

The installers worked all day getting the granite installed and did most of the fabrication on site. I was amazed by the fact that the only power tool they used was an angle grinder! I thought they would have all kinds of special tools to cut, grind and polish the granite, but it really came down to a handful of attachments for your typical 4.5" angle grinder. Crazy!

This past weekend we spent some time with Stacie's grandparents for her grandma's 90th birthday! And her grandpa's 91st is this week! They are truly amazing! The only work we got done on the house this weekend was cleaning the garage - no small feat! It's not totally finished, but it took all day Sunday. It had gotten to the point where it was just too challenging to find a tool or access the laundry. Now that it is more organized we can get on with the construction.

This week we will hopefully finish painting the kitchen, trim out the windows and get ready for tiling the backsplash. We still need to make decisions on some of these things like the tile, floors and trim we are going to use.
