This weekend felt really productive and we have a lot to show for it!
We started the tile backsplash in the kitchen. Since we had some tiles that needed to be special ordered we couldn't do everything. To avoid having to rent a wet tile saw on two different days we just set the tiles that didn't need any cutting. Once the other tile arrives we'll rent the saw and set the rest of the tiles.
Without any cutting, setting the tiles went pretty quickly. After that we moved on to installing the floors. I've installed real wood floors before, but this was my first experience with laminate. The pieces only come in three different lengths so it takes a little more work to make it look random. Also, since the pieces lock together end-to-end and side-to-side you are quite limited in where you can use an off-cut piece. Other than that, it is pretty easy to work with. It floats on the sub-floor so there is no gluing or nailing which makes the work go fairly quick.
We're getting excited about moving into the kitchen soon! We were hoping the other tile would come in by today so I could take the day off tomorrow to finish setting all the tile. That would have given us a chance to move into the kitchen this weekend. But.. the tile didn't come in today, so this weekend will be finishing the tile setting. Hopefully we will be able to get the grout work done the following week and move in the following weekend.
